Takeaways for Leaders:
There are some things your senior leader might want you to know, but may not be comfortable sharing with you. Here are some things your leader wishes they could tell you:
When you tell me something is as important as what you tell me. Operate from a “no surprises” standpoint. How you lead up is so important. Recognize that it may be an opportune time for you to offload information to your leader, but may not be appropriate or necessary for them. Everybody’s rhythm is going to be different.
I want you to make decisions and get stuff done. Activity is better than productivity. At the end of the day, there should be results of what you’re getting done. Some things don’t need to wait for your leader’s approval, just take initiative and spearhead your ideas, as long as you’ve earned their trust. Be okay with failure and take responsibility for your mistakes.
Give me the grace to grow. It can be easy to offer grace to yourself but difficult to extend it to your leader. Having longevity in your relationship helps you to see how much your leader has grown. Perfection is not attainable this side of eternity; the goal is repentance and growing forward.
